The snow is on the ground, the lights are on the tree and the eggnog carton is sitting empty in the fridge — the holidays are here! And as we get closer to the fun-filled festivities, I'm finding it difficult to separate holiday cheer from my work. So, instead of the classic Rudolph and Frosty tunes playing over in my head, I’ve got Burl Ives crooning about natural areas and LIS.

This holiday season, why not learn this new take on an old favourite to celebrate the holidays with all creatures great and small?

The 12 Days of Wildlife

On the first day of Christmas
My day job gave to me
Some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the second day of Christmas
My day job gave to me
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the third day of Christmas
My day job gave to me
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the fourth day of Christmas
My day job gave to me
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the fifth day of Christmas
My day job sent to me
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
My day job sent to me
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the eight day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A friendly beaver family
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A business of ferrets
A friendly beaver family
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A parliament of owl
A business of ferrets
A friendly beaver family
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A steady caterpillar army
A parliament of owl
A business of ferrets
A friendly beaver family
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
And some moose in Cookville, N.B.

On the Twelfth day of Christmas,
My day job gave to me
A congress of salamanders
A steady caterpillar army
A parliament of owl
A business of ferrets
A friendly beaver family
A buoyant brace of mallards
A charming charm of finches
A cloud of grasshoppers
A richness of marten
A company of badgers
A glint of gleaming goldfish
and some moose in Cookville, N.B.
