This year, Canadians from coast to coast are gathering to celebrate 50 years of successful conservation by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Already, two events have been hosted in Manitoba and Alberta to get NCC's golden anniversary year started with a bang.
On April 26, 2012 the Manitoba Region hosted its annual Celebrating Nature Dinner in Winnipeg. This year the dinner was held in honour of Jim Richardson, who has retired as the Manitoba Region board chair. The proceeds of this event support the important conservation and stewardship activities and programs in Manitoba.
Then on May 2, NCC's Alberta Region hosted its Legacy of Landscapes gala event in Calgary. A total of 500 supporters, conservationists and sponsors gathered to celebrate projects in Alberta that have been conserved by NCC in partnership with other groups, individuals and organizations.
And that's only the beginning. NCC will soon host a third gala event in Vancouver. President & CEO John Lounds will be joining NCC board members and volunteers on a canoe trip along the Saskatchewan River this summer. And from July 2-6, NCC staff will be taking time out to visit natural places across the country and reflecting on their connections to nature and to NCC's conservation work. The celebrations will wrap up in November with a final gala event in Toronto, Ontario.
Stay tuned for more news about how you can celebrate with NCC. Fifty years of conservation work is a legacy Canadians can all share together!
