On a bright sunny morning in late August, a group of 54 Audi employees from Ajax, Ontario arrived at the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC’s) Hazel Bird Nature Reserve on the Rice Lake Plains in Northumberland County, ready to roll up their sleeves for conservation.

The Audi team spent the day in nature learning about globally endangered tall grass prairie while lending a hand to restore areas of the Hazel Bird property.

The group planted close to 10,000 plugs of native tall grass species, removed young non-native invasive Scotch pine trees encroaching on the prairie and improved habitat for the endangered ghost tiger beetle, all in support of NCC’s efforts to restore these lands.

During the day, Audi employees had the chance to chat and get to know each other better as they worked together to restore this fragile habitat, sometimes even introducing themselves to colleagues they hadn’t met before — giving the employees a chance to bond while making conservation happen.

Audi has made a generous three-year pledge to NCC, with the added donation of hands-on help from their employees through NCC’s Conservation Volunteers program.
