Christmas is coming
It's that time of year
When we humans
Are all in a tizzy

I envy the rattlesnake
Tucked in his den
Even swift fox
Are not very busy

The pronghorn slow down
To tug at the fescue
Sage grouse
Don't come to the dance

Curlew's gone south
With the burrowing owl
Ferruginous hawks
Seen by chance

Cattle are grazing
If snow's not too deep
And the prairie wool
Isn't too lean

The short-horned lizard
Is deep underground
Even summer
He'll seldom be seen

The gift to those creatures
And generations to come
Is the life
In the soil and the sand

So all should be thankful
For Ranchers and families
And their stewardship
Of this great land.
