Waterton Springs Campground update

In early 2017, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) announced that the Waterton Springs Campground would cease operations at the end of the season.
As a conservation organization, NCC does not want to be in the campground business nor do we have the capital to invest in to keep the site operational, as our donor funds are strictly for conservation actions. We are, however, searching for alternatives that would allow the campground to reopen under new ownership in the future.
In 2007, NCC purchased the Waterton Springs Campground in partnership with The W. Garfield Weston Foundation. At the time, NCC’s securement of the property for conservation purposes was supported by the local community.
At the time of purchase, it was determined that the current vendor was to continue operating the campground until the agreement expired on December 31, 2016.
NCC is now working with the Government of Alberta to try and find a way to transfer ownership of the campground so that it can continue operations under the provincial parks’ mandate. As this process is taking longer than expected, the campground will remains closed until this situation can be resolved.
