What is your position at the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC)?
Finance coordinator for the BC Region
Where do you work?
How did you come to join the NCC team?
Having worked for for-profit companies for many years, I am very pleased to now be working here at NCC, where I can contribute to the tremendous effort this organization makes conserving and protecting Canada’s natural habitats and native species.
What is your educational background and previous experience?
My recent educational background is art history, but accounting in a variety of environments, including renewable energy and charitable organizations, has been my career path. I studied botany and zoology during my first year of university in South Africa, but switched to finance.
What are you hoping to achieve through your work at NCC?
I feel very fortunate to be part of an organization that focuses on the importance of conserving our natural environment. I’m thrilled that number crunching is a vital part of this process so that I am able to contribute and hopefully help make a difference.
Describe a typical day at work.
As finance coordinator I have to ensure contracts, invoices, time sheets and revenue forms are processed in a timely manner, which involves a lot of coordinating with the rest of the team as well as with outside contributors.
What are your hobbies/interests outside work?
In my spare time, I love to write fiction and draw on rainy days, but if the sun is shining I enjoy reading on the beach or exploring beautiful Victoria and hiking in the surrounding areas.
