Elk River Alliance

The Elk River Alliance (ERA) is a community-based water group that aims to promote conscientious watershed management in southeastern BC's Elk Valley. Based out of the Fernie area, they work hard to ensure that communities are connected to the Elk River and that the river itself is healthy and productive.

In the summer of 2014, the Elk River Alliance, with help from the Fernie Trails Alliance, generously donated their time to the repair and maintenance of our Ancient Cottonwood Trail boardwalks.

After 2013 floods washed the heavy boardwalks downstream, these volunteers had their work cut out for them. With a large amount of ingenuity and brute force, the team successfully re-installed the bridges on the trails. Thanks to the Elk River Alliance and Fernie Trails Alliance, the trails to access the cottonwoods are once again open to the public.
