Having spent her career working in the public health field, Cathy Rand knows about the deep connection between a healthy environment and healthy people. Nature conservation is very close to her heart and so is the beautiful country we live in. Cathy has been an NCC donor for over 10 years and decided to support the organization because it works to protect important and unique areas all across Canada.

On a trip to Saskatchewan in 1999, she participated in one of NCC’s Conservation Volunteer events and visited a Saskatchewan ranch to pick wildflower seeds on the property as part of restoration work there. The experience left such a lasting impression that she knew from that point on she would spend the rest of her life helping with the conservation of nature.

Two years ago, Cathy made a bucket list. Her goal is to hike at least 10 kilometres of the Trans Canada Trail, travel along a Canadian Heritage River and visit an NCC property in each province and territory.  “If I’m going to get out and explore Canada, why not do it in the very special places that NCC is protecting because of their unique features?” So far, she has visited at least one NCC property in eight provinces: Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
