Having grown up in Finland, "the land of a thousand lakes," water has a special place in my heart. It has come to symbolize freedom and happiness to me. My fondest memories involve water – swimming in a lake by a cottage with friends, sailing on an open ocean with family, reading by a river on a quiet summer day. I always feel calm and peaceful around water, whether it’s the Baltic Sea, Lake Ontario, or the small ravine behind our apartment in Toronto. I can’t imagine living far away from a clean, natural body of water, and I can’t imagine a world without them.
