Joel Nicholson was born and raised in the prairie region of Alberta. Life in rural Alberta cultivated his interest in wildlife, which led him to complete a BSc degree in biology from the Augustana Campus, University of Alberta. His work as a professional wildlife biologist has encompassed a wide variety of wildlife species throughout western Canada. Joel is currently employed by the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Division in Medicine Hat as a senior wildlife biologist. This work includes management, conservation and recovery programs for prairie species ranging from elk to greater sage-grouse. Joel is the current provincial staff lead for sage-grouse and oversees the implementation of the recovery program for this critically endangered species.
