How did you come to join the NCC team?

I was born and raised in downtown Toronto. For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about conserving wildlife and wildlands. Through my work with local initiatives, such as the Coastal Douglas-fir and Associated Ecosystems Conservation Partnership and Habitat Acquisition Trust, I developed an appreciation and respect for the importance of managing private land and of engaging community to protect local native wildlife and wildlands. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) was always on my radar as an ideal place to work. In addition to being located in a city I love and call home, this position offers a great balance between information management, reporting, fieldwork and engagement.

What is your educational background and previous experience?

Bachelor of science (zoology – University of Guelph); master's of science (biology – University of Victoria – studying garter snakes in Saanich Parks). Notable relevant work experience with the Coastal Douglas-fir and Associated Ecosystems Conservation Partnership (coordinator), Habitat Acquisition Trust (bat stewardship coordinator), Capital Regional District Regional Parks (research assistant), Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy Ecosystem Information Section (various roles in fish and wildlife data management).

What are you hoping to achieve through your work at the Nature Conservancy of Canada?

I appreciate that this position allows me to contribute to community (both the NCC community and communities across BC) and to make a difference on the ground. I am excited that my day-to-day work has positive impacts and tangible results that support biodiversity conservation.

What is your favourite place in nature?

My favourite place in nature is a family cottage in Muskoka on Lake of Bays near Huntsville, Ontario. Growing up in a big city, this home-away-from-home was a great escape from the hustle and bustle, to relax and recharge among family and nature.

What are your hobbies/interests outside work?

Outside of work, I enjoy basking in the sunshine and going for beach walks, camping and hiking with friends, and doing yoga and pottery.
