How did you come to join the NCC team?

A lot of hard work and a little serendipity! Before joining NCC, I worked for a diversity of organizations on various initiatives ranging from marine and terrestrial research and conservation, to stewardship and zero-waste. I’d like to thank the organizations who took a chance on me and everyone who supported me to get to where I am today. Also, thank you NCC for welcoming me to the team!

What is your educational background and previous experience?

I graduated from the University of Victoria in 2015 with a bachelor of arts double major in geography and environmental studies with distinction. I am currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems Applications program at Vancouver Island University to further my skills.

Some previous experiences include Robson Bight Marine Warden with the Cetus Research & Conservation Society, field research assistant with the Laguna San Ignacio Biodiversity Science Program, zero-waste recycling coordinator with the Indigenous Perspectives Society, field research assistant & bio-cultural field technician with the Kitasoo/Xai’xais Stewardship Authority and UVic’s Applied Conservation Science Lab, and Coastal Guardian Watchman with the Kitasoo/Xai’xais Stewardship Authority and the Coastal Guardian Watchmen Network. Through these experiences I have been fortunate to meet and work with incredible people in stunning places with beautiful flora and fauna!

What are you hoping to achieve through your work at the Nature Conservancy of Canada?

I look forward to expanding my skills and knowledge in conservation, stewardship and collaboration while contributing to restoring and protecting our beautiful West Coast.

What is your favourite place in nature?

I really love being deep in a remote forest next to a giant old-growth tree, such as a western redcedar or sitka spruce, and marveling at their enormous, beautiful and calming presence.

What are your hobbies/interests outside work?

Probably not surprising but hiking is at the top of my list, in addition to sailing around the coast, reading nature genre books, cooking (and eating), gardening, singing and playing bass guitar.
