Rice Lake Plains Butterfly Count
Get outside and survey butterflies during the Rice Lake Plains Butterfly Count.

Get to know some of the winged wonders of the Rice Lake Plains’ rare grassland and savanna habitats. Participants will meet at Hazel Bird Nature Reserve and be grouped into teams, along with a knowledgeable leader, and assigned a specific area of the Rice Lake Plains to survey for the count. Physical activity will include hiking approximately four kilometres over uneven terrain.

Additional activity details, including directions and parking instructions, will be provided after registration. Please look for three emails with event information; one will be sent immediately after registration (scroll to the bottom of the email for the participant package), and a reminder will be sent one week, and then one day, before the activity. No previous experience is required. This event will be rescheduled to Sunday, June 22, 2025 if conditions are rainy or windy. We will notify you at the email address and phone number you provided during registration if we need to cancel.
To allow us to plan for a safe, successful and enjoyable day in the field together, all participants must register in advance of the activity. As space is limited and spots fill up fast, register today to confirm your attendance.
