Rooting for Conservation - Part 2

Help us put down roots on the Goldie Feldman Nature Reserve!

King City, Ontario (GPS coordinates: 43°58'14.8"N 79°35'54.8"W)

9 a.m.-1 p.m.

You will help Nature Conservancy of Canada staff plant native trees and shrubs along our trails at the Goldie Feldman Nature Reserve. Physical activity will involve hiking up to one kilometre over hilly terrain, bending, crouching, carrying 1- to 2-gallon potted trees, and digging holes using shovels. Invasive scotch pine saplings will also be removed, using loppers.

Moderate fitness level required. There will be a portable toilet and hand sanitizer on site.

All tools will be provided by NCC.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own shovel, loppers and work gloves if they have them.

Water and snacks will be provided.

Equipment checklist

  • sturdy close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting muddy 
  • gardening/work gloves, loppers and shovel if you have them. Please put a label on your tools.
  • layers of long clothing (long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sweater)
  • hat with a brim 
  • raincoat and rain pants (just in case)
  • water bottle 
  • lunch/snacks
  • sunscreen/bug spray 
  • any necessary medications

Additional event details, including directions and parking instructions, will be provided after registration. Please look for three emails with event information; they will be sent immediately after registration (scroll to the bottom of the email for the participant package), then reminders one week, and then one day before the event.  The emails may get filtered into your spam or junk folders. No previous experience is required. This event will proceed rain or shine, so please dress for the conditions: rubber boots or shoes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty, long layers of comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, a hat and a change of dry clothes (just in case).

To allow us to plan for a safe, successful and enjoyable day in the field together, all participants must register in advance of the event. As space is limited and spots fill up fast, register today to confirm your attendance.
