Gwenaël Heyvang has been with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) since 2006, and has been the securement and stewardship director in Quebec since 2017. After completing her bachelor of science degree in environmental geography, Gwenaël obtained a specialized graduate diploma (DESS) in geographic information systems and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in geography.

Her role at NCC consists of providing effective management and administration of the major securement operations and funding programs available in the region to deliver securement activities. Gwenaël also provides guidance to the conservation team in the implementation, development and funding of conservation projects. She develops annual business plans and budgets for securement across the province and currently manages a $53 million contribution from the MELCC, (Projet de Partenariats pour les milieux naturels) necessary to Quebec region’s all-around conservation actions. Prior to this, she was a program coordinator across the region and a program manager responsible for land securement across the Green Mountains Natural Area.

As environmental protection is close to her heart, she was treasurer of the Board of Administrators of the Réseau de milieu naturels protégés for five years, working to support Quebec’s conservation organizations in their capacity building efforts.  With a career spanning more than 25 years, Gwenaël has developed her experience in ecology, conservation biology, protected areas management, restoration ecology, conservation planning, fundraising and accounting, communications and human resources management.
