Regional vice-president, Quebec region
Jean Laporte joined the management team of the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in the fall of 2017 as regional vice-president, Quebec Region. In his role, he will contribute his management and business development expertise to strengthen the presence and actions of NCC in Quebec.
A skilled manager and a wise entrepreneur, Jean has had a remarkable career in business.
He is a well-known speaker in Quebec and in the rest of Canada, on topics such as work organization, leadership and change, for corporate conferences as well as on television for RDI and TVA.
In addition to his role in corporate settings, Jean has extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, such as with YPO and the Club des petits déjeuners (Breakfast Club of Canada). He has also been designated as a Master Executive Coach by the American Council of Engineering Companies.
In 1987, he became a representative at Apple Canada, where he was responsible for major accounts such as DMR, Canadian National (CN) and Bombardier. During his 10 years at Apple Canada, Jean held such significant positions as vice-president for Quebec and director, business division, for Eastern Canada.
Recruited by Fido in 1997 as its national vice-president of sales, he led this retail channel, with 57 points of sale and more than 600 employees, to its greatest successes to date.
From 2002 to 2009, Jean was president of Rogers Communications for Eastern Canada, a region with more than 4,000 employees. He was responsible for small businesses, corporate accounts and various government accounts. Besides improving the company’s market share and profitability, Jean and his team ensured the annual success of the Rogers Cup, which was named Event of the Year at the Grands Prix du Tourisme 2006.
He was accredited as a corporate director in 2007 and is the current chair of the board of directors for Collège Notre-Dame, and a board member for Orizon Mobile.
His book, Laporte de la réussite, was published in January 2009 and has sold more than 1,500 copies.
As president and founder of the Laporte group, a consulting firm specializing in top-line growth and business plan implementation, Jean has been sharing his business expertise and key learnings with companies and leaders since 2011. He has created a new area of practice by combining two approaches that are essential for clients — consultation and coaching — resulting in what he refers to as “coachsultation.”
