Leafy Spurge Beetle Collection at Willner-Elbow Community Pasture
Join us for a real-life treasure hunt!
Saturday, July 9, 2022 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Located southeast of the town of Elbow and directly east of Douglas Provincial Park, the Willner-Elbow Community Pasture is a 9,308-hectare portion of native grassland intermixed with sand dunes, shrub lands and aspen stands. Last year, after a decade of releases, Willner-Elbow community pasture confirmed a self-sustaining population of leafy spurge beetles. The primary goal for this event is to facilitate the spread of this leafy spurge-eating beetles by collecting them from areas where they are plentiful to areas in the pasture that need a bit more help controlling leafy spurge. These efforts will help land managers continue to control the invasive leafy spurge.
Final details, including driving directions, will be emailed to you upon registration.
Registrants will be invited to an optional Zoom webinar on Thursday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the leafy spurge beetle to help prepare for the event.
Participants under 18 years of age are welcome; please notify the event organizer.
