A Gift of Nature from Canada to King Charles III

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of delivering a gift of nature on behalf of the Canadian people to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

NCC is delighted to be chosen to receive a $100,000 donation from the Government of Canada that will conserve natural habitat across the country. It will be used to achieve conservation of nature here at home and to support the next generation of conservation leaders — our organization’s interns. These young professionals deliver tangible, on-the-ground impact for the sake of nature and people.

NCC president and CEO Catherine Grenier says she cannot think of a better way to mark the coronation. The King’s well-known love for nature and commitment to the environment is aligned with Canada’s pledge to conserve 30 per cent of our lands and waters by 2030. Conservation in Canada has global significance, and Grenier hopes that news of this gift will inspire many more people to join in efforts to halt and reverse the loss of nature.

“The King has long used his voice on the global stage to stress the urgency of a unified effort against the threats of climate change and biodiversity loss. There is no solution to either challenge without nature conservation. This gift is a vote of confidence in NCC’s ability and determination to drive sizeable and permanent results for nature in Canada, and to prepare our young professionals to lead us all to a nature-positive future,” said Grenier.

As a trusted delivery partner, NCC works with others to accelerate the pace and scale of conservation and as an ally in support of Indigenous-led conservation. NCC has an ambitious goal to conserve and protect another one million hectares of Canada’s lands and waters by 2030.
