Alberta Distillers Limited

Alberta Distillers Limited

In 1946, Frank McMahon, Max Bell and legendary master distiller George Reifel had an ambition to make world-class Canadian spirits — spirits that all Canadians can enjoy — and headed west to Calgary to open Alberta Distillers, the first distillery in Western Canada.

Known for its expertly crafted spirits and commitment to innovation, Alberta Distillers has been creating some of Canada’s most well-known and well-loved spirits, including Alberta Premium Rye, Alberta Premium Cask Strength, Alberta Pure Vodka, Northern Keep Vodka, Banff Ice Vodka, Alberta Springs Whisky and more. The distillery’s brands are highly accoladed and respected in the global spirits industry, with countless experts regarding Alberta Distillers as a Canadian hidden gem.

Alberta Distillers proudly makes its products from the best Canadian prairie grains, grown by farmers who have worked with them for decades. These grains are carefully blended with water fed from the snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains to produce their award-winning liquids and signature profiles. Every batch is carefully crafted alongside local farmers and tells the story of Alberta’s robust flavours and agricultural history. Supporting the protection of our most important natural areas and the species they sustain through their partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) was a natural fit for Alberta Distillers. In celebration of its 75th anniversary in 2021, Alberta Distillers donated $75,000 to help conserve seven NCC properties across the country — from BC, to the company’s home in Calgary, Alberta, and to Nova Scotia.

Alberta Distillers Ltd. is one of the few remaining 100 per cent Canadian rye whisky producers in North America. Alberta Premium is the number one-selling, 100 per cent rye whisky in the world. Add their popular vodkas, distilled from Alberta wheat and chill-filtered for maximum smoothness, and you have an award-winning collection.

Alberta Distillers has received many prestigious awards, including Distillery of the Decade at the 2020 Canadian Whisky awards as well as Vodka Producer of the Year at the 2022 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
