watershed

A watershed includes all of the land that drains to a common outlet, such as a stream, river or lake. The type of land and land uses within a watershed have a direct influence on aquatic ecosystems, water quality and flow.

Larger watersheds contain many smaller watersheds. For example, NCC’s Buffalo Pound property in Saskatchewan is in the Qu'Appelle River watershed. The Qu'Appelle River watershed is in the Assiniboine River. All of these are within the much larger watershed that includes all the rivers that flow to Hudson Bay.
