RBC Foundation has invested in the future of conservation technology, through a partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC).
Technology has revolutionized almost every aspect of our lives, including the field of conservation. As Canada’s largest private land conservation organization, NCC manages large amounts of data related to conservation planning, land securement and stewardship. This information is stored in NCC’s Land Information System (LIS), the central database for data management.
With an investment from RBC, NCC is building LIS 2.0, a more powerful and advanced software that will allow NCC to collect, store, share, and analyze more data — and to do so more efficiently. This, in turn, will greatly improve NCC's conservation planning and outputs, allowing NCC to do more in support of conservation, and do it both faster and better. The support is part of RBC Foundation’s goal of working with partners to use technology to solve pressing environmental challenges.
RBC Foundation’s support also recognizes NCC’S Landmark Campaign, the largest private conservation fundraising campaign in Canadian history. Increasing NCC’s data capacity is essential during the Landmark Campaign, as NCC works towards the goal of adding 1.3 million hectares (3.2 million acres) of conserved land.
